Who is Justin Musil?

Justin has personally helped hundreds of baseball players achieve their goal of playing college baseball at a school that they love through his work with Elite Sports Advising. He has worked with over 600 Division 1 players. It’s not all about Division 1 baseball though, it is all about finding the right fit. He has worked with hundreds of players at the D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO level as well.

Because of his unique ability to identify talent, and match that talent with the appropriate school, he has earned widespread respect across the industry that has made him one of the most recognizable names in college baseball. This reputation led to opportunities within Major League Baseball and a position as Strategic Advisor to Scouting for the Milwaukee Brewers. In this role, Justin was responsible for special assignment scouting, evaluating players, gathering information on players, and using his valuable connections to help in the draft decision making process.

Justin grew up in a baseball-loving family, and he knew at a young age that baseball would always be a part of his life. Many family members made a huge impact on him and his love for the game. He had many cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents who were actively involved in molding his love for the game of baseball.

His parents were his greatest role models and have made a great impact on his life. His mom rarely missed a game and was always encouraging him to push further and reach for his dreams. He was fortunate to grow up with a dad who was heavily involved and coached him for many years.

There wasn’t a coach Justin had, who knew him better than his dad. His dad gave him endless support and encouragement throughout his playing career. Justin will never forget the same phrase his dad used after every game “good job bud, did you have fun?” Justin’s dad still travels with him on occasion to scout players and watch high school and college baseball. The two have a unique bond from the many baseball experiences they’ve shared together.

Justin’s grandpa Bernie was also a major impact on his life in many ways. The two would sit around the table and look through box scores and talk statistics and players. They would also talk about strategy and how the game should be played. Growing up, his grandpa Bernie rarely missed a game of his and the two would often spend hours recapping games and how they played out. Bernie passed away from cancer in 2005. His impact on Justin was immense and will never be forgotten.

Justin spent many hours listening to baseball with his Grandpa Bernie on this radio.

Justin’s siblings have also been very impactful in his baseball career. His sisters were always supportive, and spent countless hours at games watching Justin play, even traveling across the country to watch him at times. His older brother Jeremy was his biggest competitor and playing partner his entire childhood and well into his teens.

Jeremy was a constant reminder that he needed to work harder to get better. The two battled in every game they played and Jeremy never let him win. This is a huge piece of Justin’s mindset today and what makes him so competitive. He always had to earn everything playing against an older brother. The brothers also shared many baseball trips with their dad and their grandpas Bernie and Sherman. Justin and Jeremy ended up playing together during college and even worked together at Elite Sports Advising.

Justin chose to play college baseball at a Division 3 school in Wisconsin, so that he could attend school with his High School Sweetheart. Even at the age of 18, he understood that sometimes other factors take priority over playing at the highest level. This experience has translated well into encouraging kids to evaluate every aspect of a school to make sure they will be completely happy with their choice.

That decision to attend the Division 3 school paid off, in 2006 he married his High School Sweetheart, Amanda. They now reside in Cumberland, WI, with their daughters Evianna and Elouise. Family is very important to Justin, which greatly influences the guidance he provides for baseball players as they make big decisions about their future.

It all started with Elite

After spending some time in the Corporate world, Justin knew that he needed to turn his love of baseball into a career. He worked briefly for a National Recruiting Service, and quickly realized that there was an incredible need for a more personalized approach to helping families through the recruiting process.

In 2012, he founded Elite Sports Advising, and began his life’s work of scouting and helping families navigate the college baseball recruiting process.

Because of his scouting ability and knack for building relationships, Justin’s reputation quickly grew in the college baseball community. He soon became close friends with many coaches at schools across the country. These relationships and his credibility have led to many opportunities for him.

Justin has been sought after by MLB organizations and has been offered jobs in college baseball as well. In 2022 Justin sold Elite Sports Advising to focus on his role with the Milwaukee Brewers, and he maintains strong connections within college and major league baseball.

BRC: A way to help the masses

It soon become clear that the need for help through the college baseball recruiting process was beyond his reach as a personal advisor, so Justin started the Baseball Recruiting Confidential (BRC) podcast in 2018 as a way to help those players and families beyond his reach.

The enthusiastic response to the BRC Podcast was a clear indication that people need more help with this process. Justin now dedicates a portion of his time to creating resources for baseball players and families, so that they can confidently navigate the recruiting process on their own.
